E.R.T. - Equine Raindrop Treatment

With my educational class about Young Living 100% therapeutic-grade oils coming up September 27, I thought it would be appropriate to write this month's blog about one of my favorite therapies, the E.R.T. or Equine Raindrop Treatment or Technique.

WHAT is E.R.T.?

Equine Raindrop Treatment or some will say technique, is a hands-on massage using different massage strokes and a variety of specific Young Living's 100% therapeutic-grade essential oils on the horse's meridians (the acupuncture energy pathways) to physically and emotionally strengthen the horse's body.

WHY do an E.R.T. on your horse?

- it detoxes the body and strengthens their immune system, especially the ones that compete and have to travel as well as horses that had a traumatic experience, injury, surgery or just not doing so great.

- it re-aligns their spine by working the oils into the muscles along the spine through different massage techniques the spine has the ability to re-align itself. It's also great for horses that have sore backs.

- Emotionally uplifting, especially for those that suffer from stress and anxiety. It helps them feel positive again.

WHO DEVELOPED E.R.T.?

The Raindrop Technique was developed in 1991 by Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils - www.youngliving.com He first choose 9 therapeutic-grade essential oils that would synergistically combine to kill viral and bacterial pathogens, reduce inflammation, support and strengthen the immune system, ease respiratory discomfort, relax stressed muscles and relieve the body of join and bone discomfort. He felt this combination of oils would also balance the energy, lift the spirit by reducing stress, and calm a troubled or confused mind. Raindrop Technique is one of the safest, most non-invasive regimens available for spinal health. It’s also an invaluable method to promote healing from within using topically applied essential oils. Raindrop Technique has vast benefits only to be realized by the individual receiving the application. It’s different for each horse (and person) and is personal and specific to individual needs. Occasionally I might adjust the oils if I feel a horse has specific needs.

WHICH OILS ARE USED?

VALOR: is used for structural balancing and alignment; nicknamed chiropractor in a bottle as it helps the body self-correct its alignment. Also helps balance energies and instills courage and confidence. Contains frankincense, black spruce, rosewood and blue tansy essential oils in a base of almond oil.

OREGANO: awakens receptors, kills pathogens, helps digest toxic substances on the receptor sites; has immune stimulant, anti-inflammatory, and powerful anti-microbial properties.

THYME: kills pathogens and digests waste and toxic substances on the receptor sites; has anti-aging and anti-microbial properties. Cells have a fatty coating, which tends to go rancid (or oxidize) over time. When that happens, oxygen and nutrients cannot get into the cell easily, and waste material cannot get out. Thyme essential oil helps protect that fatty coating and thus may prevent or reduce the aging process.

BASIL: releases muscle tension due to its powerful anti-spasmodic properties; also has anti-inflammatory properties and anti-microbial properties and is soothing to insect bites. May help with migraines/headaches and lung or throat infections.

CYPRESS: improves circulation, strengthens blood capillaries, and is the oil for the pituitary gland; has anti-spasmodic properties and discourages fluid retention.

WINTERGREEN: reduces pain and is a natural anesthetic for the muscle-skeletal system; has anti-inflammatory properties. Wintergreen is like a plant version of aspirin due to its high levels of naturally occurring constituent methyl salicylate.

MARJORAM: strengthens and soothes muscles; soothes and relieves body and joint discomfort and is a general relaxant. May help with headaches.

PEPPERMINT: promotes greater essential oil penetration; soothes and supports the digestive system and has pain-relieving properties; has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. Energizing and stimulating to the conscious mind.

AROMA SIEZ: used for muscle relaxation and pain reduction; soothes tight, inflamed, and aching muscles from stress, fatigue and injury; promotes circulation. It contains lavender, basil, cypress, marjoram and peppermint EOs.

ORTHOEASE: this unique massage oil is a warming, calming, and soothing blend of essential oils that is ideal for strained, swollen, and torn muscles and ligaments; has pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains eucalyptus, juniper, lemongrass, vetiver, wintergreen, marjoram, thyme, and peppermint essential oils in a base of almond, coconut, grapeseed and olive oils.

Again, occasionally I might adjust some of the oils if I feel a horse has specific needs. YL has over 300 different oils and combinations of oils.

WHAT EXACTLY ARE ESSENTIAL OILS?

Essential oils are natural aromatic liquids that are steam distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, fruit, rinds, resins, and herbs. They are considered to be the life blood of plants and are the most powerful part of the plant.

Pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils may contain anywhere from 80 to 300 different natural, organic compounds. They are highly concentrated, far more potent than herbs, and have been shown to produce many positive physiological changes in the body.

In humans and animals alike, they are very versatile in that they provide support for every system in the body: the immune system, skeletal & muscular system, respiratory system, endocrine system, digestive system, nervous system, and so forth. They support brain health and a healthy weight. Essential oils are rejuvenating for the skin. They help to discharge existing toxins and tend to inhibit the accumulation of toxins as well. Essential oils are used extensively for emotions and for spiritual support in life.

How do essential oils enter – and how long do they last?

The unique, lipid-soluble structure of essential oils is very similar to the makeup of cell membranes. They have a very small molecular size and are quickly absorbed. They contain powerful oxygenating molecules which help transport nutrients and oxygen into the body’s cells. Tests have shown essential oils reach the heart, liver, and thyroid in three seconds when inhaled; they were found in the bloodstream in 26 seconds when applied topically. Expulsion of essential oils takes 3 to 6 hours in a normal, healthy body.
